QUICK ANSWER

What is Sunset Coastal Drive?

Sunset Coastal Drive is an arcade racing game: steer a red convertible across three lanes of a coast road, grabbing coins and dodging traffic to reach Sunset Pier through five timed stages on 3 lives. Holding boost burns nitro for +170 km/h and smashes crates and cars instead of crashing, and each checkpoint opens a pit stop where coins buy upgrades. With 210 seconds of base clock per trip, it suits quick sessions on keyboard or touch.

How do you play Sunset Coastal Drive?

The car speeds up on its own: steer between three lanes and reach each checkpoint, then Sunset Pier, before the clock hits zero. Gold coins, cash stacks and money bags give 10, 50 and 250 points times your combo, and add 1, 5 and 25 coins to spend at pit stops. Hold boost to burn nitro for +170 km/h and smash through crates, barricades and cars. Coins, cash, bags, near misses and Nitro bubbles refill the gauge. Hitting a crate, barricade, rock or car without a shield costs one of 3 lives; cones only slow you and oil spins you. The trip ends when time or lives run out.

Tips & strategy

  1. Press boost within 0.3 s of GO, keys or the lightning button, for a Perfect Start: 140 km/h plus 2.2 s of turbo.
  2. Grab money less than 2 s apart: the 4th pickup in a row makes the combo x2 and the 16th x5. Crashes, cones and oil reset it.
  3. Save nitro for walls of crates: while boosting you smash obstacles for +150 and cars for +300 instead of losing a life.
  4. Pass cars with only a hair of space for a NEAR MISS: +100 points and +14 nitro every time.
  5. A 50-coin Shield at the pit stop lasts until it blocks a crash, cheap insurance before busy Harbor Town and Sunset Pier.
  6. Oil slicks spin the car for 0.9 s and cut speed, but boosting drives straight over them, so save a burst for the dark puddles.

Sunset Coastal Drive FAQ

How do you get more time in Sunset Coastal Drive?

Reach the next checkpoint. The trip starts with 48 seconds and the four checkpoints add 40, 40, 40 and 42 seconds, with leftover time carried over. The clock stops while you roll through a checkpoint and while the pit stop is open. Clock bubbles on the road add 6 seconds, and every second left at the finish is worth 100 points.

How does the nitro gauge work in Sunset Coastal Drive?

The gauge starts at 30 out of 100 and burns 34 per second while you hold boost; it needs at least 8 to start, and braking cuts the boost. Each Nitro tank upgrade adds 40, up to 180. While boosting you are safe from crates, barricades, rocks, cones and traffic, which you smash for points, but oil slicks are simply skipped, not smashed.

What can you buy at the pit stop in Sunset Coastal Drive?

After stages 1 to 4 the pit stop sells four upgrades for coins: Repair (+1 life, 70), Engine (+15 km/h, 140 then 200, max 2 levels), Nitro tank (+40 capacity and a full refill, 100 then 160, max 2) and Shield (blocks one crash, 50). Repair shows FULL with 3 lives and Shield shows FULL while you have one. Press 1 to 4 or tap a card, then Enter or CONTINUE.

How are the five stages of Sunset Coastal Drive different?

Cruising speed rises from 210 km/h at Palm Beach to 258 km/h at Sunset Pier. Cliffside Pass has the sharpest curves and hills, oil slicks appear from Harbor Town on, Neon Boulevard is lined with boost pads, and traffic grows from 5 cars to 10 at Sunset Pier. Crossing the FINISH gate at the pier completes the trip.

What happens when you crash in Sunset Coastal Drive?

Hitting a crate, barricade, rock or car while not boosting and without a shield costs one of 3 lives, drops you to 35% speed, resets the combo and gives 1.6 s of safety. Cones only slow you and reset the combo; oil spins you for 0.9 s. Repair bubbles and the pit stop Repair restore a life. Losing every life wrecks the car and ends the trip.

How do you earn three stars in Sunset Coastal Drive?

The end screen checks Reach the pier, Crash at most once and Collect 70% of the money, and all three need you to finish. The 70% counts the value of money picked up on the road, so spending coins at the pit stop never costs a star. Hits blocked by a shield or smashed with nitro are not counted as crashes.
