What is Treadshift?
Treadshift is a 3D off-road physics driving game for the browser in which you take a small expedition truck across 30 handcrafted trials using only a gas pedal, a brake and, from stage 13, a Landing Pulse. Each stage adds a mechanism to read: rope bridges that sag under the wheels, seesaws that tip, planks that drop 0.7 seconds after you touch them, rotor blades, rafts, lifts and hammers. A run takes 10 to 30 seconds, and the five Energy Cells on every trail pay for garage upgrades.

How do you play Treadshift?
Reach the beacon at the end of each trial. Hold D or the right arrow (or the GAS pedal) to drive, and A or the left arrow (or BRAKE) to brake; keep holding it to reverse. There is no steering: speed, braking and the truck's pitch decide everything, and in the air gas lifts the nose while brake dips it. From stage 13, Space or PULSE just before touchdown softens the landing. A run ends in the water, after 1.8 seconds upside down, after 5 seconds stuck, or under a hammer, and R restarts at once.
Tips & strategy
- Collapsing planks drop 0.6–0.7 s after a tyre touches them, so cross at full speed and never stop on one.
- Stop about 4 m before a hammer while its orange lamp blinks, and go the moment the head starts to lift.
- Let go of the gas once a bounce pad launches you: holding it in the air rotates the truck onto its back.
- On ice the tyres keep only 13% of their grip, so feather the gas and start braking early.
- Rotor blades sweep forward with you: leave a standstill when a blade points straight down to pass under level blades.
- A clean run of a stage pays 25 Cells plus up to 45 for a first gold, and the four upgrade steps cost 70, 130, 210 and 310.
What are the controls in Treadshift?
| ACTION | INPUT |
|---|---|
| Gas | D / → (W / ↑) |
| Brake, hold to reverse | A / ← (S / ↓) |
| Landing Pulse (stage 13 on) | Space |
| Restart the stage | R |
| Pause and resume | P / Esc |
| Gas pedal (hold), or the right half of the scene | GAS, bottom right |
| Brake pedal, hold to reverse, or the left half | BRAKE, bottom left |
| Landing Pulse button (stage 13 on) | PULSE, bottom centre |
Plays with keyboard, mouse, and touch. Fullscreen works in desktop and mobile browsers.
Treadshift FAQ
How does the Landing Pulse work in Treadshift?
Tap it in the air just before the wheels touch down. For 0.35 seconds it stiffens the suspension and cuts the rebound and spin of the landing by 30 percent, then it needs 0.8 seconds to recharge. It unlocks at stage 13 and is optional, because every stage can be cleared without it.
Why does the truck flip after a bounce pad in Treadshift?
Because gas in the air rotates the truck nose-up and brake rotates it nose-down. Holding gas through a long bounce-pad flight turns it onto its back, and staying more than 115 degrees over for 1.8 seconds ends the run. Let go of the gas after take-off and tap brake if the nose keeps rising.
What makes the wooden planks fall in Treadshift?
A tyre or the body touching them. Each plank on a collapsing crossing starts to shake and turn orange the moment it is touched and drops 0.6 to 0.7 seconds later. A truck at speed is across before they go, while stopping on them means a swim, and fallen planks only come back when the stage restarts.
How do you get past the hammers in Treadshift?
Watch the orange lamp on the tower: it blinks before the head comes down and while it rests on the road. Stop about four metres before the tower, wait for the head to start lifting, then drive under it. Being under the head when it lands ends the run, so never chase it at full speed.
When do the Crawler and Hauler unlock in Treadshift?
The Crawler joins for free after you clear stage 10, and the Hauler after stage 20. The Crawler grips 18 percent better with 15 percent more torque, while the six-wheeled Hauler is 20 percent heavier with 30 percent more torque. Every stage can still be finished with the starting Scout.
How do medals and Energy Cells work in Treadshift?
Each stage has five Energy Cells worth 5 Cells each. Finishing within the gold time earns gold, within 1.3 times it silver, and anything slower bronze. A better medal pays 20, 30 or 45 Cells, but only the difference and only once, and a failed run keeps up to 10 Cells. Cells buy Engine, Tyres and Suspension upgrades in the garage.
What do the lock gates and lifts do in Treadshift?
Lock gates open and close on a fixed rhythm, with a teal lamp when open and a red one when closed, and a closed gate only blocks you. Lifts carry the truck 1.4 to 1.6 metres up to the next ledge on a 4.4 to 4.6 second cycle, and a safety door at the edge holds you back while the lift is away.
