QUICK ANSWER

What is Burrow Blast?

Burrow Blast is a dig-and-shoot cave platformer in your browser where Moxie the miner blasts through dirt and creatures to reach the lift at the bottom of each of 24 levels. One blaster does everything: dirt breaks in 1 hit, stone in 3 and crystal in 6, and every block you dig fills a pouch of up to 30 blocks for steps, bridges and walls. A level takes about a minute, and each of the 4 chapters ends in a boss arena.

How do you play Burrow Blast?

Blast dirt and stone to dig a path down to the lift. Each shot takes one hit off a block or creature: dirt needs 1, stone 3, crystal 6. Dirt and stone you break go into your pouch (10 at the start, 30 at most); build a block to climb a ledge, bridge a gap or cover lava. Bites, spores and lava each cost one of 5 hearts, and at 0 the level starts over. Every level hides 3 geodes in stone shells: bring all 3 and beat the par time for 3 stars. New chapters add bounce caps, lava, bombs and crystal, and every sixth level is a boss fight.

Tips & strategy

  1. Keep 3 or more blocks in the pouch: a block placed on a lava cell covers it, and a short row turns a pool into a walkway.
  2. Low on blocks? Blast plain dirt: 1 shot, 1 block back. Crystal, geode shells and bounce caps give nothing.
  3. When Grubmother winds up, block her path: a crash into a wall dazes her for 1.6 seconds, the safest time to shoot.
  4. A spitter fires a spore every 2.4 seconds at where you stand. Step aside as it fires, then shoot in the gap.
  5. The par clock waits for your first move or shot, so look around first; the edge arrow already points to the lift.

Burrow Blast FAQ

How do you get more blocks in Burrow Blast?

Break dirt, stone, roots or packed blocks with the blaster: each one adds a block to the pouch, up to 30. Every level starts you with 10. Crystal, geode shells, bounce caps and anything a bomb destroys add nothing, so dig through plain dirt when the count gets low.

What are geodes for in Burrow Blast?

Geodes earn the second star of a level: carry out all 3 and that star lights up on the result screen. Each one sits in a stone shell off the main path, crystal in Crystal Deep, and takes 3 hits to crack. The gem then falls and slides to Moxie from about 2 blocks away. You can reach the lift without them.

How do you cross lava in Burrow Blast?

Build over it. A block placed on a lava cell covers that cell, and a row of blocks makes a bridge, so carry a few in the pouch before Ember Vein's pools. Touching lava costs a heart and throws Moxie up at 13 blocks per second, so jumping straight in is never free.

How do you beat Grubmother in Burrow Blast?

Dodge her charge and shoot her while she recovers. After a 0.75-second wind-up she rushes along the floor at 8.5 blocks per second; jump over or build a wall, because hitting a wall dazes her for 1.6 seconds. She takes 110 hits and calls 2 grubs every third cycle, so clear those first.

What do the red marks mean in Burrow Blast boss fights?

A red mark shows where an attack will land a moment later. Spore Queen rains spores on 4 marks, Cinder Mole bursts out of the ground under one, and Crystal Warden slams down on one. Step off the mark as soon as it appears, then shoot back once the hit has landed.

When do you get bombs in Burrow Blast, and what do they break?

Bombs arrive in chapter 3, Ember Vein: cave levels start with 2, boss arenas with 3, and crates add 2 more. A bomb flies along your aim, goes off after 1.3 seconds and breaks every block within 2.6 blocks, crystal included. It costs Moxie a heart if she stands too close.

How is the par time set in Burrow Blast?

Each par is the time a test autopilot needs to clear the level with all 3 geodes, plus 30 percent, rounded up to 5 seconds, so pars run from 40 to 100 seconds. The clock only starts on your first move or shot. Beating par earns the third star, separately from the geode star.
